How to Layer in the Winter

Happy Monday friends!
With the temperatures getting lower and lower, layering has become a must for me. Coming from a girl who gets cold when it's 70 degrees out, it's pretty safe to say cold winter temperatures isn't my thing (which I think is a little strange since I grew up in the mountains..). WIth that being said, I'm sharing my little "formula" on how I layer up in the cooler months.
Start off with a base layer
"Wear something tight" ...please someone tell me they got that reference!
But really. My mom always drilled it in my head from a young age to start off every winter outfit with some type of tight base layer to help keep you warm in the winter. I like to think the base layer captures all of my body heat to help keep me warmer through out the day!
I typically start off with either a cami or for colder days a tight long sleeve tee top or a turtleneck for days when it's really cold out. If I know I'm going to be outside for a long period of time I will even layer either tights or leggings under my pants for some extra warmth!
Layer on your main layer
This would be the main part of your outfit whether it be a cozy sweater, a poncho or a flannel. Lately I have been having fun playing around with mixing different pieces and textures together. Also, I love having my base layer peak out of my main layer like I have done so in this outfit!
Accessorize
I'm not talking about a big statement necklace or earrings because let's be honest, that's probably not going to provide you with a lot of warmth. I'm talking about gloves, hats and scarfs (and fuzzy socks!). Throw on a cozy blanket scarf, a cute beanie and some gloves and you'll surely be nice a toasty in the winter weather!
Outer layer
For milder weathers a nice puffer vest would work fine as an outer layer, but for those much colder days (aka anything below 50 degrees for me), a thick heavy jacket is a must for me. If it was colder I would def throw on a nice thick jacket on top of this outfit!
And that's it! That's my little go to "formula" on how to layer in the winter! I hope you all found this helpful and let me know what your layering tips are down below! I hope you all have a great day and as always, thank you for reading!
